WIN :WIN Version 2 , Younger Workforce Solutions

WIN WIN version 2, was a hugely successful workshop closely focused on attracting, retaining and managing younger generations. In the first half of the workshop Erma Ranieri presented strategic solutions to attracting and retaining Generation X, Y and Dot Com to the Public Sector.The second half focused on recent research, with some case studies to consider, presented by Locher HR.

As part of its new ‘Lifting Your Sights Series’ the IPAA Women’s Forum was proud to present a practical, condensed workshop on ‘Increasing Effectiveness and Energy at Work and Home’.
FOR THE FIRST TIME, IPAA HOSTED A CRECHE AT THIS EVENT TO ACCOMODATE WORKING PARENTS, AT NO EXTRA COST.

FAST FORWARD: CAPTURING THE WORKPLACE INNOVATION OF TOMORROW

International innovation and competition expert, Dan Pink, was in Adelaide for a half-day seminar. He focused on how right-brain thinking can better lead to innovation and positive change when harnessed effectively. For the public sector, this means more meaningful and efficient reforms and better services for citizens.

Monday 12th
Workforce Planning Workshop Series for Practitioners

As promised in 2007, IPAA is proud to bring you a practical workshop series to help organisations and individuals in preparing workforce plans.

This is a step-by-step program designed to guide you through the critical steps of investigation, gathering and interpreting data, developing strategies and presenting the business case to senior executives. It is based on the new Standards Australia guide to Workforce Planning and is presented by the standards’ major contributor, Julie Sloan.
Sessions will be short and run under the Chatham House Rule to encourage the free sharing of information and problems. There will be some homework and investigation expected between sessions.

This is a unique opportunity for HR practitioners and Managers to be coached by an expert through the process of workforce planning.

Reforming Cabinet Office

Cabinet Office in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet was overhauled midway through last year. This event was an excellent opportunity to hear from Tanya Smith (Deputy Chief Executive, DPC) and members of her leadership team about recent changes and their vision for how Cabinet Office can work more effectively with other parts of the system.

Similar to the concept of speed dating our guest speaker, Nova FM's Lisa Fernandez, imparted tips and tricks to successful networking. Attendees had the chance to practice their skills there and then in our speed networking session. Best of all, they met a range of people who might just turn out to be valuable colleagues or friends in the future

Target 2%: Aboriginal Employment in the SA Public Sector

IPAA and the Don Dunstan Foundation were proud to host this special event presenting the findings of a report into the reality and challenges of aboriginal employment in the SA public sector. Associate Professor John Spoehr and Dr Kate Barnett presented the report’s findings. An expert panel of practitioners and aboriginal public sector employees shared their experiences.

Tuesday 12th
High Impact - Women in Leadership

The South Australian Strategic plan outlines an ambitious target for 50% of all executive and board positions to be held by women by the year 2014. This highly interactive forum asked IPAA members for their comment and contribution to this dilemma, and commenced an open discourse around the perceived opportunities and barriers to senior women in the SA Public Sector.

The IPAA Young Professionals Forum (YPF) held a fun event to celebrate 2008. Young professionals got the chance to meet new people, the team behind YPF events, and see what's in store for the coming year. Best of all, it was free for IPAA Young Professional members, who enjoyed a fountain of chocolate, canapés and drinks.

Attracting and retaining staff in the public sector

THE ARGUMENT FOR FLEXIBLE WORK ARRANGEMENTS
A Breakfast Event for Public Sector Executives, senior managers, IR and HR staff supported by the Government Reform Commission and Commissioner for Public Employment, and SafeworkSA. The Guest Speaker, Cheryl Davenport is from the Western Australian Department of Health and is the Chair of the State Health Advisory Committee on Work Life Balance.
Cheryl will share her Western Australian experience identifying and implementing practical strategies to tackle many of the major challenges South Australia also faces in public sector employment: an aging workforce, competition for talent and skills, provision of work flexibilities and creation of a positive organisational culture to support new flexible work practices.

Catherine Helen Spence Oration: COERCIVE RECONCILIATION
An IPAA Presented by an external organisation event

Rex Wild QC presents the topic “COERCIVE RECONCILIATION” for the inaugural Catherine Helen Spence Oration for the wellbeing of children. Rex was co-chair of the Inquiry into the Protection of Aboriginal Children from Sexual Abuse, and co-author of the Little Children are Sacred Report. This presentation will look at events in response to the report, in light of what the Inquiry learnt and the report’s recommendations.

Managing change and driving innovation - making it part of everyday.

Jude Munro, a well known and popular member of Adelaide's high-flyers before being enticed to Brisbane to take on the role of CEO of Brisbane City Council, will headline this must-see event.

At the latest bi-annual economic forecast, we heard from two experts Professor Richard Blandy, Uni SA and Mr Greg Connor, CEO Savings and Loans who gave their forecast of the South Australian economy and shared their post-State Budget thoughts.

We featured The Hon Kim Beazley MP, Leader of the Opposition and Federal Labour leader, who presented his vision for the public sector of the future.
