Following IPAA’s successful forum Ethical Behaviour in the Public Sector in April, we are running up a follow up session on how the Code of Ethics has been received in the public sector.

Now over a year since the Parliament of South Australia enacted the Public Sector Act 2009, our speakers will take a look at how the implementation of the public sector framework for the Code of Ethics has been undertaken within the sector, providing tips and case study examples.

IPAA’s On the Couch series explores the lives and ideas of some of South Australia’s most notable public sector leaders, visionaries and social campaigners

As our next guest On the Couch, Pauline Peel, will speak openly about her experiences and challenges of driving community reforms across all government jurisdictions. Pauline’s achievements include driving the COAG reforms to Close the Gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in QLD, leading the Brisbane City’s first Economic Development Strategy and other key projects including the Brisbane Powerhouse, the Museum of Brisbane, the Brisbane Riverfestival and the refurbishment of the Queen Street Mall. What has she in store for South Australia?

Pauline’s depth of experience is immense and can be related to most positions across the Sector. Valuable lessons can be drawn from:
the political savvy of influencing COAG
  • the challenges of community consultation and tips on how to do this effectively
  • networking across local, state and commonwealth jurisdictions
    The sessions is interview style, allowing questions to be asked from the audience. Networking time is included for cross-departmental discussion over coffee.

    Brenton Caffin, Chief Executive Officer, The Australian Centre for Social Innovation

    Brenton began his career in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, later consulting to Australian and British governments on public policy, performance improvement and change management.

    Brenton returned to South Australia to pursue his passion for public sector reform through executive positions with the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Government Reform Commission and WorkCover, before becoming the inaugural CEO of The Australian Centre for Social Innovation in 2009.

    Brenton has degrees in economics and international relations and a Master of Public Administration from Flinders University, where his research focused on public sector innovation in South Australia.
