Each year the National Council of the Institute of Public Administration Australia conducts a national essay competition known as the Sir George Murray Award.  The South Australian Division organises and conducts the competition on behalf of the IPAA National Council.

The award was established in 1939 'for the promotion of Public Administration in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia'.  The Award was made possible by a substantial gift by the then Patron of the South Australian Regional Group of the Institute of Public Administration, Hon. Sir George Murray.  It has subsequently become a fully national award.

The competition aims to promote creative thinking, analytical writing and debate on issues in Australian public administration.

Entries are judged by a panel drawn from senior administrators and academics Australia-wide.

The winner for 2006 is Colette Rogers form the Public Service in Victoria.

Her essay titled "The impact of Australian Government Network contracting on not-for-profit service providers" is a current and relevant topic which seeks debate and analysis on current issues.

Congratulations Colette!!!
